A Study on the Relationship Perception among Nurses, Technicians and Administrative Staffs in Medical Institution

Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the relationship among nurses, technicians and administrative staffs including from small offices to large university hospital.

Methods: A total of 483 workers in hospitals (245 nurses, 136 technicians and 102 administrative staffs) were recruited for this study. The relationship level was measured with Barrett-Lennard relationship Questionnaire.

Results: The results were as follows: 1) Nurses¡¯ regard from technicians and technicians¡¯ congruence from administrative staffs was significantly high. 2) Nurses¡¯ regard and understanding from technicians was significantly higher compare to administrative staffs. Technicians¡¯ regard and un-conditionality from administrative staffs also higher compare to nurses. Administrative staffs¡¯ regard and congruence from technicians was significantly higher compare to nurses. 3) ¡®regard¡¯, ¡®empathic understanding¡¯ and ¡®congruence¡¯ domain scale were lower in nurses compare to technicians and administrative staffs (9.30¡¾14.46, -.050¡¾10.32, 5.17¡¾9.91). 4) relationship scales were higher in primary care clinics compare to larger hospitals.

Conclusion: Nurses, technicians and administrative staffs should recognize the verbal and nonverbal factors that affect their relationship and try to develop relationship enhancing program. Implications and suggestions to further research are discussed.
